New Well Permit Issued for Columbiana County
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Hilcorp Energy Co.’s Elkrun-Scheel well pad in Columbiana County has been issued a new horizontal well permit at the site, according to the latest report from the Ohio Department of Natural Resources.
The permit is the fourth issued for the pad since May 30, ODNR records show. The pad is just off state Route 517 in Elk Run Township.
Hilcorp is the most active driller in the northern Utica shale, which encompasses Mahoning and Trumbull counties in Ohio and Mercer and Lawrence counties in western Pennsylvania. No permits were issued in these counties for the week ended June 24, according to ODNR and its counterpart in the Keystone State, the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection.
Two other permits were issued for Ohio’s Utica during the week, ODNR reported. Both were awarded to EM Energy of Ohio LLC for wells in Monroe County.
The rig count, which tracks the number of rigs operating in the Utica for the week, remained unchanged at 24, the same as the previous week, according to ODNR.
As of June 24, 2,536 permits had been issued for Ohio’s Utica shale, ODNR reports. Of that number, 2,032 wells are drilled and 1,584 wells are producing.
