New Year, New Youngstown City School Logo
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – A new school year means new teachers and new classes for students, and a new logo for the Youngstown City School District.
The new logo, along with a new slogan “Honoring the past, Embracing the future,” reflects the district’s respect for tradition and its zest for the future, said CEO Krish Mohip in a release.
“It marries tradition with innovation,” he said. “As we return to a district of neighborhood schools, we’re providing students with new, modern technology and high-quality instruction. Our new logo mirrors that combination.”
The logo will appear on district letterhead and accessories.
Besides reviving neighborhood schools, YCSD returns to two high schools for the 2017-18 school year: East and Chaney. For the last several years, Chaney has been a science, technology, engineering and mathematics and a visual and performing arts school for students in grades six to 12. Sports also is returning to Chaney this year.
The new logo, designed by Beloit-area artist Robert McFerren, combines the colors of the two high schools. The “Y” bears red from Chaney and gold from East. Chaney’s colors are red and grey and East’s colors historically were blue and gold.
The district also will start the new school year with a new website. The new site is under construction and is expected to be ready when classes resume Sept. 5.
