Newly Restored Cottage at Peter Allen Inn Will Open for Tours

KINSMAN, Ohio – The historic Stone Cottage on the grounds of Peter Allen Inn, 8581 State St., has been restored and converted into four luxurious overnight rooms. The cottage, built in 1836, blends historical charm with modern comforts.

The public is invited to tour the Stone Cottage from noon to 5 p.m. Sunday and noon to 6 p.m. Wednesday. Guests who enjoy a meal and show their receipt at the Peter Allen Inn during the tour will be entered into a special drawing for a chance to win an overnight stay in the Stone Cottage.

The cottage has a fascinating history.

Originally located on a 101-acre farm in Wayne Township, it was purchased by David Smilie from Jonathan Kenny, who, distrustful of paper currency, required payment in silver.

Over the years, the Stone Cottage became a symbol of early Ohio craftsmanship, embodying the rugged beauty of 19th-century architecture. It was constructed by a Scottish stonemason who quarried the stone from his property and tooled each stone.

The Richard and Rhonda Thompson Foundation has honored this legacy by carefully rebuilding the structure, ensuring its enjoyment by future generations.

The cottage adds four overnight guest rooms to the Peter Allen Inn, which now has a total of seven rooms. Guests in all rooms are granted access to the inn’s spa and services.
