NFL Selects Helmet Challenge Recipients

The NFL awarded four participating teams with grants to further helmet safety.

Barry Myers, director of innovation at Duke University’s Clinical and Translational Science Institute and chairman of the NFL’s oversight committee, said the participating teams focused on everything from a redesign of the helmet structure to creating new materials.

“We look for great ideas, but we also look for great teams and their ability to execute, get the job done and show up in about a year with a prototype helmet that robust enough to test, past that test and really move safety forward,” Myers said.
