Niles Mayor Hails Jewelers’ Opening As ‘First Step’

NILES, Ohio– The new mayor of this city, Thomas Scarnecchia, said Thursday that the opening of a Rogers Jewelry store inside the Eastwood Mall bodes well for Niles.

“It means an awful lot for the city that new businesses are coming in here. It’s filling the mall and, of course, we have more employees,” he said at a ribbon cutting to celebrate the opening.

“This is the beginning. This is the first step,” he continued, adding news of further growth within the city would be coming shortly.

“There are some businesses that are going to expand,” he stated, declining to be more specific.

This spring, the Cafaro Co. will open its new headquarters building and a Hampton Inn & Suites Hotel is nearing completion at the mall complex.

Those projects and the undisclosed developments have him feeling “hopeful” of what the new year will bring to the city, the mayor said.

The management at Rogers Jewelers agreed. “The area is strong. It’s on the uptick,” said assistant manager Andrew Weaver.

The new store sits across from an anchor, J.C. Penney, and will employ four or five. Rogers Jewelers, which has outlets in 10 states, is part of Samuel Jewelers Inc.
