Notre Dame Coach to be Honored at Champions Among Us Dinner
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Notre Dame football coach Marcus Freeman will be the guest of honor at the United Way of Youngstown and The Mahoning Valley’s annual Champions Among Us Dinner.
The event will take place May 23 at The Lake Club, 140 Paulin Road, Poland.
Freeman played at The Ohio State University for four years for former coach Jim Tressel, starting 37 games at linebacker. He was twice selected for the All-Big 10.
Freeman began his coaching career at Ohio State and later moved to Kent State, Purdue, Cincinnati and Notre Dame. He was named head coach of the Fighting Irish in December 2021, becoming the 30th head coach in the program’s history.
“Champions Among Us is our largest fundraiser, and we are lucky to welcome such great names in sports. This year is no different with coach Freeman,” said Bob Hannon, president of United Way of Youngstown and the Mahoning Valley. “Notre Dame is a legendary program with an amazing following around the country. Coach Freeman has generously donated his time to help us raise money to impact our students and families in need.”
Past guests at the event include golfers Jack Nicklaus and Annika Sorenstam, college football players, coaches and Youngstown natives the Stoops brothers (Bob, Mike, Mark and Ron), the late Pittsburgh Steelers great Franco Harris and Ohio State head coaches Jim Tressel, Urban Meyer and Ryan Day.
Sponsorships and tickets are still available for the event.
Guests will receive hors d’oeuvres and a buffet dinner prepared by The Lake Club. An open bar before a fireside chat with Freeman will also be available.
