November New-Business Filings Total 9,035
COLUMBUS, Ohio – Through the first 11 months of the year, new-business filings in Ohio are up 7.2% over last year to 116,410, including 9,035 filings in November, the Ohio Secretary of State reports.
In 2017, there were 117,249 entities filing to do business in the state, the eight consecutive year a record was set and a number on pace to be surpassed this year. From 2010 to 2017, the annual number of filings has increased 46.3%.
Of the November new-business filings, the majority, 6,282, were limited liability companies, while trade names were the second-most common filing, coming in at 1,044. Ranking third was domestic corporations, of which 791 filed, followed by fictitious names at 523.
According to Secretary of State Jon Husted, 80% of new businesses are started online through Ohio Business Central. As of August 2017, all filings required to open or maintain a business in the state could be filed online. Since the digital portal was launched, 479,337 new-business filing have been made online.
