November VLT Play, Winnings Up 8% from 2014

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Wagers and winnings on Hollywood Gaming at Mahoning Valley Race Course’s video lottery terminals last month were each up about 8% from a year earlier, the latest monthly data show.

The Ohio Lottery Commission released the monthly results Monday afternoon. The commission oversees VLTs in the state.

In November, credits played on the VLTs totaled $72.4 million at the Austintown Township racino, up 8.2% from the $66.9 million wagered in November 2014 but down from $78.5 million in October. Credits won last month totaled $64.5 million, up 8.3% from the $59.5 million in winnings in November 2014, and down from the $69.9 million in October.

In October and November, 940 VLTs were operating on average per day at Austintown compared to 866 in November 2014.

Net win – credits played minus the total of winnings and promotional credits — totaled $7.3 million in November, up 5.1% from November 2014’s nearly $7 million and down from October’s 7.9 million.

Out of the net win figure in November, Penn National Gaming Inc., which operates the Austintown racino, received $4.5 million as its commission. Another $2.3 million went to the lottery commission.

At Hollywood Gaming at Dayton Raceway, which opened a month before the Austintown racino’s opening Sept. 17, 2014, posted VLT play of $67.6 million in November, down from $68.3 million a year earlier and down from $74.8 million in October. Winnings at Dayton Raceway were $60.0 last month, compared with $61.2 million a year earlier and $66.8 million in October.
