ODNR Awards Two Utica Permits in Belmont County
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – The Ohio Department of Natural Resources awarded two permits to Ascent Resources Utica for wells in the Utica-Point Pleasant shale play last week.
Both wells are in Wheeling Township in Belmont County. In total, ODNR reports 11 active drilling rigs in the shale play.
No applications were received for wells in Mahoning, Trumbull or Columbiana counties through Jan. 18. Nor were any permits issued in Lawrence or Mercer counties in Pennsylvania, according to the state’s Department of Environmental Protection.
Through Jan. 18, ODNR has issued 3,184 permits for horizontal drilling in the Utica-Point Pleasant shale, with 2,711 wells drilled and 2,431 in production.
