ODNR Issues 15 Permits for Southern Utica
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – The Ohio Department of Natural Resources issued 15 new permits for horizontal wells in the Utica shale for the week ended April 8, the agency reports.
All of the permits were issued in the southern portion of the Utica – in this case Belmont, Jefferson and Noble counties.
Antero Resources secured five new permits in Noble County, Rice Drilling obtained four for Belmont County, Chesapeake Exploration LLC received three permits for wells in Jefferson County, while Gulfport Energy Corp. received two for wells in Belmont County.
Through April 8, ODNR has issued 2,461 permits in the Utica, 1,951 of which have been drilled, and 1,534 of which are producing.
The rig count remained unchanged in the Utica from the previous week at 20.
No new permits were issued in the Utica’s northern tier for the week, which encompasses Mahoning, Trumbull, and Columbiana counties in Ohio, and Lawrence and Mercer counties in western Pennsylvania, according to ODNR and the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection.
