ODNR Issues 23 New Utica Permits in Southern Tier
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – The Ohio Department of Natural Resources issued 23 new permits for wells in the Utica shale last week, all of them located in the oil and gas play’s southern tier.
Denver-based Antero Resources Corp. received nine permits for new wells — five in Noble County and four in Monroe County for the week ended Oct. 24, according to ODNR.
Ascent Resources Utica was awarded five permits for Belmont County, while Gulfport Energy Corp. was awarded four permits to drill in the county. XTO Energy, a subsidiary of Exxon Mobil, and Rice Drilling LLC each received two permits for new wells in Belmont.
The rig count for the week stood at 24, ODNR reported. To date, 2,066 permits have been issued in the Utica, 1,624 wells have been drilled, and 1,026 of these wells are in production.
There were no new permits issued for Columbiana, Trumbull or Mahoning counties in the northern section of the play. Nor were there any new permits issued in neighboring Lawrence and Mercer counties in western Pennsylvania, according to the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection.
