ODNR Issues 4 Utica Drilling Permits
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Four permits were awarded by the Ohio Department of Natural Resources for drilling in the Utica-Point Pleasant shale play in the week ended Jan. 11.
All four permits were granted to EAP Ohio LLC for activity in Jefferson County, two in Ross Township and two in Salem Township.
No permits were submitted for wells in Mahoning, Trumbull or Columbiana counties, according to ODNR. And no permits were awarded in Lawrence or Mercer counties in Pennsylvania, according to the state’s Department of Environmental Protection.
As of Jan. 11, there were 10 rigs in Ohio’s shale play. That state has issued 3,184 permits for horizontal drilling, with 2,711 wells drilled. Of those, there are 2,423 active wells.
