ODNR Issues 6 Permits for Utica Drilling
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Six permits for wells in the Utica-Point Pleasant shale play were awarded by the Ohio Department of Natural Resources for the week ended Feb. 1.
Three permits were granted to Gulfport Appalachia LLC for wells in Belmont County and three were granted to EAP Ohio LLC for wells in Harrison County.
No applications were awarded for wells in Mahoning, Trumbull or Columbiana counties. Nor were any issued in Lawrence or Mercer counties in Pennsylvania, according to the commonwealth’s Department of Environmental Protection.
As of Feb. 1, ODNR had issued a cumulative 3,190 permits for horizontal drilling in the Utica-Point Pleasant shale, with 2,712 wells drilled. Of those, 2,434 wells are producing.
