ODNR Issues 6 permits for Utica Drilling

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – The Ohio Department of Natural Resources awarded six permits for drilling in the Utica-Point Pleasant Shale last week.

Three were awarded to Ascent Resources Utica for wells in Jefferson County’s Wayne Township, two to Gulfport Appalachia for wells in Belmont County’s Pease Township and one permit was granted to Antero Resources Corp. for a well in Noble County’s Seneca Township.

No permits awarded in Mahoning, Trumbull or Columbiana counties, nor were any awarded for Mercer or Lawrence counties in Pennsylvania, according to the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection.

The ODNR reports 14 active wells in the Utica-Point Pleasant shale play. As of Nov. 2, 2,198 permits have been awarded in the state, with 2,719 horizontal wells drilled and, of those, 2,355 are active.
