ODNR Issues Five New Permits for Utica Wells

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – The Ohio Department of Natural Resources issued five new permits for horizontal wells across the Utica shale during the week ended Sept. 12, according to the latest update on oil and gas activity in eastern Ohio.

ODNR issued four permits to Antero Resources Corp. for wells in Monroe County, while a single permit was issued to XTO Energy Inc. in Belmont County, the agency reported.

There were no new permits issued for Columbiana, Mahoning or Trumbull counties, ODNR said.

The rig count in the Utica remained unchanged at 21. Since 2010, there have been 2,005 permits issued in the Utica shale to energy companies drilling for oil and gas. Of that number, 1,588 are drilled and 1,006 are producing.

There were no new Utica permits issued to energy companies in Lawrence or Mercer counties in western Pennsylvania, according to the latest report from the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection.
