ODNR Issues Nine Permits in Utica
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – The Ohio Department of Natural Resources issued nine permits for new horizontal wells during the week ended Nov. 28, as the rig count in the oil and gas play inched downward.
The number of rigs operating in eastern Ohio’s Utica shale region stood at 18 for the period, down from 19 the previous week.
Ascent Resources LLC received three permits for new wells in Jefferson County and Antero Resources Corp. was awarded two permits to drill wells in Noble and Monroe counties.
XTO Energy Inc., a subsidiary of Exxon Mobil, R.E. Gas Development LLC, Statoil USA Onshore, and PDC Energy Inc. each received single permits to drill in Belmont, Carroll, Monroe and Noble counties respectively.
To date, there are 1,119 producing horizontal wells in Ohio’s Utica shale region and 1,648 wells have been drilled, ODNR reports.
There were no new permits issued for Columbiana, Mahoning or Trumbull counties.
Nor were there new permits issued for neighboring Lawrence and Mercer counties in western Pennsylvania, according to the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection.
