ODNR Issues Six Permits in Utica
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – The Ohio Department of Natural Resources issued six new permits for horizontal wells in the Utica shale for the week ended Oct. 28, the agency reports.
Eclipse Resources secured three permits for wells in Monroe County. Gulfport Energy received two while XTO Energy, a division of Exxon Mobil, received a single permit for wells in Belmont County.
As of Oct. 28, ODNR has issued 2,662 permits in the Utica, and 2,157 of those wells are drilled. Of that number, 1,717 wells are in production.
The number of drilling rigs operating in the Utica stood at 23 during the week, unchanged from the previous two weeks.
There were no new permits issued in Ohio’s northern Utica, which encompasses Columbiana, Mahoning and Trumbull counties. Nor were new permits issued for wells in neighboring Lawrence and Mercer counties in western Pennsylvania, according to the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection.
