ODNR Issues Six Permits in Utica

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – The Ohio Department of Natural Resources issued six permits for horizontal wells in eastern Ohio’s Utica for the week ended Nov. 25, the agency reported Tuesday.

Oklahoma City-based Ascent Resources Utica received three permits to drill wells in Jefferson County, while Eclipse Resources, based in State College, Pa., secured two permits for wells in Monroe County. Rice Energy, a subsidiary of Pittsburgh-based EQT, received a single permit for a new well in Belmont County.

As of Nov. 25, ODNR has issued 2,687 permits for horizontal wells in the Utica, of which 2,180 are drilled and 1,729 are in production.

The number of rigs operating in the Utica stood at 23, unchanged from the previous week.

There were no permits issued during the week in the northern tier of the Utica, which includes Mahoning, Trumbull and Columbiana counties in Ohio, and Lawrence and Mercer counties in western Pennsylvania.
