Ohio Business Filings Rise to Start Year
COLUMBUS, Ohio – New business filings in January were up slightly from a year ago as 10,075 entities filed paperwork with the Ohio Secretary of State, 42 more than January 2017.
A majority of those, 7,071 according to the release from Secretary of State Jon Husted, were LLC’s while 1,243 were trade names. The third-largest group was domestic corporations, of which 855 were registered.
According to Husted, three of every four Ohio businesses are started using the Ohio Business Central platform, which allows business owners to file all necessary paperwork digitally. Since the service began in 2015, the Secretary of State’s office has processed 341,624 online filings.
The increase in filings comes on the heels of last year’s record numbers, as 117,429 businesses filed to do business in Ohio, which beat the previous record from a year prior by more than 12,000.
