Ohio Oil and Gas Production Leap in Third Quarter
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – More than 7.2 million barrels of oil and 673 billion cubic feet of natural gas were drawn from Ohio’s Utica-Point Pleasant shale play in the third quarter, according to figures from the Ohio Department of Natural Resources.
Both figures are up dramatically from the second quarter, when oil production stood at 5.07 million barrels and natural gas production at 609.45 billion cubic feet. Year-over-year, oil production is up nearly 30% and natural gas is up just over 11%.
Columbiana County topped production in the tri-county area as 10.34 billion cubic feet of natural gas was produced during the quarter, with two wells responsible for more than 1 billion cubic feet on their own: EAP Ohio LLC’s Sevek 18-12-3 210H (1.28 billion cubic feet) and Sevek 19-12-3 10H (1.01 billion) wells, both in Washington Township. Countywide production was down from the second quarter, however, when production stood at 10.92 billion cubic feet.
Oil production in the county was 6,875 barrels, led by the Ayrview Acres 27-16-5 5H well in West Township. The well is operation by EAP Ohio.
In Mahoning County, production from 12 wells totaled 336.01 million cubic feet of natural gas, down from the previous quarter’s 340.21 million. Topping the production chart was the Poland-CLL2 3H well, operated by Hilcorp Energy Co., which produced 78.48 million cubic feet.
Oil production was 2,286 barrels, with 668 from the Cadle MAHN7AHSU well in Jackson Township producing the most.
And with just seven wells, natural gas production in Trumbull County was 119.17 million cubic feet, led by the Kibler 2-3H well in Lordstown, operated by Pin Oak Energy Partners LLC. The countywide total was also down from the second quarter, when 127.83 million cubic feet were produced. There were also 1,572 barrels of oil produced, with 877 coming from the Kibler 1H well in Lordstown.
Statewide, the top-producing well was Ascent Resources Utica’s Geno E Smf 5H well in Jefferson County, which produced 3.244 billion cubic feet of natural gas. Oil production was led by Eclipse Resources’ Fineran B 7H well in Guernsey County with 143,583 barrels.
In the third quarter, ODNR reported 2,470 wells in the Utica-Point Pleasant play, with 2,419 in production.
