Ohio Living Park Vista Achieves Five-Star Rating

By Michele Bradac, development director

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Ohio Living Park Vista was blessed to spend time in 2018 celebrating our employees and their hard work and dedication to our residents. It is the mission of Ohio Living to provide adults with caring and quality services to enhance their physical, mental and spiritual well-being consistent with the Christian Gospel. And our employees make that mission a reality on a daily basis.

In February, we achieved a five-star overall rating from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services on the Nursing Home Compare Provider Rating Report. Ohio Living Park Vista has worked diligently to increase this overall rating the past two years.

With more than 900 nursing homes in Ohio, CMS allots only 10% of those homes a five-star rating. Ohio Living Park Vista now ranks in the top 10% of nursing homes in the state.

In July, Ohio Living was certified as a Great Place to Work by the Great Place to Work Institute. “From the board room to the bedside, our 3,200 employees give their best to the people we serve,” says CEO Laurence Gumina. “We hire people whose values are aligned with ours and whose personal character fits within our culture of respect.”

A challenge we face is the number of options people in the Mahoning and Shenango valleys have when they decide to downsize their house – the upkeep of their home becomes too much to handle or a medical issue arises and daily care is needed. Ohio Living Park Vista strives to be the chosen life plan people think of first when these decisions become necessary. We’ve been a proud member of Youngstown’s North Side for over 70 years and that experience definitely matters when it comes to care.

Social media is a vital part of Ohio Living Park Vista’s efforts to build awareness of everything our campus has to offer. Social media is a great outlet to keep the community, our residents, their families, and our staff up-to-date on daily activities, industry news and health tips.

Our Facebook page sees the greatest response of all the social media outlets. Posts receiving the best response are those featuring residents and employees. We receive many comments from families who see their loved ones participating and enjoying events. It provides them with great comfort, especially when they live out of town.

As a nonprofit institution, all proceeds are reinvested into the operations of our campus. We also rely on the generosity of our donors. That generosity provided new, automatic doors at the administrative entrance of our south building, which is the same entrance our outpatient rehabilitation patients use. The new doors replaced manual doors that were heavy and cumbersome, especially for those entering with the assistance of a walking device.

“The new doors allow everyone the ability to enter our building with the dignity and ease they deserve,” says Brian Kolenich, executive director.

Ohio Living Park Vista is one of 13 life plan communities owned and operated by Ohio Living, headquartered in Columbus.

Ohio Living Park Vista offers five levels of care including independent living, assisted living, rehabilitation, long-term health care and memory care. Through these five levels, we can accommodate more than 300 residents at any given time.

Since 1922, Ohio Living has defined the highest standards of quality of life for adults. Our Ohio-based services range from a variety of housing options in one of our communities through the full continuum of care to post-acute home health and hospice support for adults, wherever they live.
