Organizing Collaborative Hires Scarsella

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – The Ohio Organizing Collaborative today announced Julie Scarsella is the organization’s new director of operations.

Scarsella, of Canfield, will operate out of OOC’s main office,  in Youngstown since 2014. It shares offices with the Mahoning Valley Organizing Collaborative.

OOC “is a statewide coalition of community organizing groups, labor unions, policy institutes, student groups, and faith organizations united to build a transformative base of power to address social, racial, and economic injustice in Ohio,” according to the news release announcing the appointment.

Scarsella previously worked for the Community Foundation of the Mahoning Valley and the Make-A-Wish Foundation.

In the same release, OOC announced Elizabeth Robbins of Columbus as chief of staff and legal counsel effective January 2016. She will operate out of the Columbus office.

“Julie and Elizabeth will manage the day-to-day operations of the organization, including human resources, financial and legal compliance, and logistics,” said Laurie Couch, communications director for the organization, in an email.

That will free Heather McMahon, OOC managing director and former MVOC executive director, to focus on statewide systems development and social entrepreneurship, Couch said.

Scarsella and Robbins will “help lead the organization as it continues to grow and build power across the state,” the news release stated.
