Ohio Teacher Bootcamp Program Accepting Applications

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The application period for Ohio’s Teacher Bootcamp Program is now open for institutions of higher education.

Teacher boot camps bring educators into local businesses to help expose them to the in-demand skill sets their communities need so they can better prepare students to be career-ready upon graduation.

“Teacher boot camps have proven to be very popular, as they allow teachers to learn about businesses and job opportunities available in their communities,” Lt. Gov. Jon Husted said. “After completing the boot camp, teachers are better prepared to advise their students on the types of courses and skills they will need to be ready for work in the communities where they grew up.”

Institutions of higher education can apply to administer boot camps. Once awarded, they can enroll teachers into their boot camp, and when the teachers complete the courses, the institution will be reimbursed for tuition costs. Qualifying coursework is to be delivered in boot camp format and may include continuing education units or graduate credit coursework.

The goal of the program is to incentivize teacher professional development and expose teachers to the career opportunities for their students in critical sectors such as advanced manufacturing, artificial intelligence, broadband and 5G, cybersecurity, health care, transportation and other trades. A total of $500,000 is available through the program.

“Ohio’s economic success depends on a skilled workforce, and teachers play a pivotal role in helping students explore future options,” said Mike Duffey, Ohio Department of Higher Education chancellor. “This program provides teachers with hands-on experience with Ohio’s in-demand careers so teachers can share these firsthand experiences with their students.”

The application period will close at 3 p.m. Nov. 29. Institutions of higher education can apply HERE.
