Ohio Unemployment Continues to Rise

COLUMBUS, Ohio — Ohioans filed 10,654 initial traditional unemployment claims last week, which was up by 578 claims from the previous week’s filings, continuing an upward trend that began in October the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services reported Thursday morning.

State residents also filed 33,588 continued traditional unemployment claims for the week of November 20 to 26, which was 1,448 more than the previous week. Claims have risen by nearly 5,000 since October 15.

Of the initial unemployment claims filed, some 2,023 of those have been flagged for more stringent identity verification, to ensure they are not fraudulent.

The total number of traditional claims filed last week, was 44,242.

Ohio’s unemployment rate in October was 4.2%. The national unemployment rate in October was 3.7%.
