Ohio Weekly Unemployment Claims Decrease

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohioans filed 4,945 initial traditional unemployment claims last week, which was 443 fewer than the previous week, the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services reported Thursday.

State residents also filed 43,023 continued traditional unemployment claims the week of Aug. 11-17, which was 775 fewer than the previous week.

Of the initial unemployment claims filed, 717 have been flagged for more stringent identity verification to ensure they are not fraudulent.

In July, Ohio’s unemployment rate was 4.5%. The national unemployment rate was 4.3%. Ohio’s labor force participation rate in July was 62.3%. The national labor force participation rate was 62.7%.
