Omni House Pinwheels Remember Virus Victims

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio — Drive by Omni West Assisted Living at 3259 Vestal Road and you’ll see 2,428 pinwheels spinning in the front lawn.

The pinwheels were placed there to remember the 2,428 Ohio residents of long-term care facilities who had died from COVID-19 as of Sept. 9, says Dan Rowland, director of marketing. The display coincides with the commemoration of National Assisted Living Week, which runs through Sept. 19.

Omni West is owned and operated by Windsor House Inc., the Girard-based family owned company that operates 12 nursing homes and five assisted living communities in northeastern Ohio and western Pennsylvania.

All this week, special activities are taking place at Windsor House facilities to celebrate the residents and staff, Rowland says.
