Penn-Northwest Targets More Brownfields with EPA Grant
HERMITAGE, Pa. – A $500,000 grant from U.S. EPA Community Wide Assessment program has been awarded to Penn-Northwest Development Corp., Mercer County’s lead economic development agency.
The grant could assist with additional development along the key industrial corridors in the Shenango Valley, the agency said. The funding will enable Penn-Northwest to continue clean-up of sites determined through a previous grant awarded in 2018, and assist in identifying other sites in need of environmental cleanup.
Compliance Environmental Services Inc., based here, and DJS Ventures Inc., based in Edgeworth, Pennsylvania, will be the lead consultants on conducting environmental testing, program management and developing future models for economic development, according to the agency.
“Some sites have been identified in Grove City, Sharon, and Greenville-Reynolds,” Penn-Northwest said in an email to members. “However, we encourage any Mercer County businesses or municipalities to contact Penn-Northwest to identify potential other sites in need of a brownfield assessment.”
Testing of sites will begin later in 2022.
