Pilot Training Center Taking Off with Open House
VIENNA, Ohio – Eastern Gateway Community College, in partnership with the Western Reserve Port Authority and the Youngstown-Warren Regional Airport, will host an open house to launch a pilot training center.
The open house is scheduled from 4:30 to 6 p.m. today at the main terminal at the airport,1453 Youngstown Kingsville Road NE.
“We are excited for our partnership and the opportunity to literally lift up the dreams of future pilots in northeast Ohio by creating a pathway for employment for the next generation of flyers,” said John Crooks, Eastern Gateway Community College interim president. “This open house is open to all prospective pilots, students and anyone in the community interested in learning more about this innovative new program.”
Arthur Daly, senior executive vice president for Eastern Gateway, said demand continues to grow in the industry, and entry starts with a pilot’s license.
“The training that Eastern Gateway will offer, in conjunction with our partners, will give our students the chance to become a pilot or advance their education and training to become a commercial pilot,” he said. “This program is unique in that it allows for certificate-based curriculum alone, or can be combined with collegiate degree-based courses at Eastern Gateway. It is a very rare program that has that flexibility.”
Anthony Trevena, executive director of the WRPA, said the open house will offer the public and potential students a first-hand look at the program.
“We are thrilled to be partnering with Eastern Gateway and even more excited about the opportunities this program will provide for future pilots,” he said.
