PNC Foundation Awards $6K to YWCA’s Discovery Place
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – The PNC Foundation awarded a $6,000 grant to the YWCA of Youngstown’s Discovery Place Preschool in recognition of the volunteer efforts of PNC Bank employees, the YWCA announced.
The grant will help the YWCA of Youngstown to continue offering quality, affordable early care and education for children ages 6 weeks through 12 years.
The bank employees earned the grant for the YWCA through the PNC Grow Up Great “Grants for Great Hours” program. The program recognizes the efforts of PNC employees who volunteer with nonprofit early education and school readiness programs.
“The employee team’s commitment to YWCA Discovery Place Early Education Center has been exceptional,” Ted Schmidt, regional president, PNC Bank, Youngstown, said in a statement. “Through their participation in our Grants for Great Hours Program, they have requested that this contribution be applied specifically to this center.”
PNC staff members completed 100 hours of volunteer service for the YWCA Discovery Place Program. They cleaned, organized and accompanied children on field trips.
Launched in 2004, Grow Up Great is PNC’s $350 million, multi-year initiative to help prepare children from birth to age 5 for success in school and life. PNC encourages employee involvement in Grow Up Great through a policy that permits up to 40 hours a year of paid time off for volunteerism.
