Ponti to Return to Lead Symphony in Classical Concert

YOUNGSTOWN – The Youngstown Symphony Orchestra will return to action Sunday, Sept. 25, with a classical concert featuring guest conductor Raffaele Ponti.

The program for the 2:30 p.m. performance at Stambaugh Auditorium, titled “Autumn Ablaze,” will include Brahms’ Symphony No. 1; Mikhail’s “Ruslan and Lyudmila: Overture”; and Puccini’s “I Crisantemi” (The Chrysanthemums).

Ponti appeared with the YSO last season as a guest conductor. He is known for his powerful musical interpretations, and a rich and unique quality of sound.

Especially recognized for his interpretations of the core repertoire, Ponti has collaborated with many contemporary composers, including Kenneth Fuchs, Roberto Sierra and Jennifer Higdon.

Ponti maintains an active worldwide conducting schedule, having appeared with many Italian and American orchestras. He is equally in demand as an opera conductor.
