Pressed Coffee Bar Looks Beyond YSU for Business
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio — Since opening last February, Pressed Coffee Bar & Eatery, on Lincoln Avenue across from the Youngstown State University campus, has enjoyed excellent sales, owner Frank Tuscano says.
A key challenge his business faced, and one that will continue, is sales booming when YSU is in session and falling off during semester breaks. To address that issue, Pressed works to get word out to the downtown and surrounding communities.
Business spikes hourly between classes as students and their professors stop in for a cup of coffee and grab a bite to go or eat in, Tuscano says. An off-street lot behind the building makes it easier for customers to patronize Pressed.
Earlier this year, the coffee shop opened an additional dining room upstairs that provides 10 additional seats during the peak times.
Pressed Coffee relies on heavy use of social media, including Instagram and Facebook, to reach its collegiate audience. Word about the ability of Pressed to fill carryout orders, cater events, hold parties on premises is spreading, Tuscano says. He is exploring delivery to supplement filling carryout orders.
The outlook is bright for this year and the rest of the decade, Tuscano says, as enrollment climbs at YSU and the number of students who will live nearby in dormitories increases too.
