Library Will Preview New Branch Designs June 9
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – The Public Library of Youngstown & Mahoning County will hold a public preview from 5 to 6 p.m. June 9 of designs for the new Michael Kusalaba Branch Library.
The preview will take place in the meeting room of the Austintown Library, 600 S. Raccoon Road. Architect Ronald Faniro will present interior and exterior designs, as well as a floor plan, for the new library. A question and answer period will follow the presentation.
Comments on the proposed design can be submitted here through the end of June.
The Michael Kusalaba Branch Library will replace the West Library at 2815 Mahoning Ave., which closed April 30 in preparation for the construction on that same site.
Over the summer, library staff will clean out the building. The library and Friends of the Library will hold public sale of surplus items and books and a fundraising event is planned. The sale of surplus items is planned for June 6, 7 and 8, the book sale is set for June 6 and 7, and the fundraiser is scheduled for July 14.
The branch recognizes a $1.68 million donation from the Michael Kusalaba Fund of the Youngstown Foundation. Construction of the new library is estimated to cost $2.9 million. Library officials hope to open the new branch sometime in 2017.
