Racino VLT Wagering Rebounds in December

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Video lottery terminal wagers at Hollywood Gaming at Mahoning Valley Race Course rebounded in December after falling the month before. 

Betting on the VLTs at the Austintown racino hit $137.7 million last month, the Ohio Lottery Commission reported Friday. That was up from November’s $124.9 million total, which represented a sharp drop from October’s $140.9 million.  

In December 2020, the racino reported just $87.3 million in VLT play, rising the next month to $109.5 million, a figure it has not dipped below for monthly play since. 

Patrons at the racino received just shy of $123 million in winnings last month, up from $111.4 million in November and from $77.6 million in December 2020.

Net win in December was $12.8 million, up from $11.7 million the month before and from $8.3 million in December 2020.

December’s distribution of net win included $8.5 million to Penn National Gaming Inc., Wyomissing, Pa., which operates the racino, and $4.3 million for the lottery commission, which oversees VLT operations in Ohio. 

Penn National received $7.7 million in November and $5.5 million in December 2020. The lottery commission’s take was $3.9 million in November and $2.8 million in December 2020.
