Registered Nurses Most in Demand Job in Ohio

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio — From July 14 to Aug. 13, Ohio reports 286,522 job openings were posted online.

That’s up 22,154 from the previous reporting period, and up 2,789 from the same period in 2020, according to OhioMeansJobs.com.

The 18-county northeastern Ohio region, which includes Mahoning, Columbiana and Trumbull counties, have 99,273 online job postings according to the new data, up 7,851 from the previous reporting period. Compared to the same period last year, online job postings are down 3,843.

Throughout the state, the most job postings are for registered nurses, with 12,134 ads. Rounding out the top five are first-line supervisors of retail sales workers (11,207), heavy and tractor-trailer truck drivers (10,702), retail salespersons (8,983) and software developers/applications (7,351).

In Northeast Ohio, job postings for first-line supervisors of retail sales workers led the region with 4,442, followed by registered nurses with 3,819.

Upper middle income jobs earning $50,000 to $79,000 annually comprise 26.4% of statewide postings, compared to middle income jobs ($30,000-$49,000) making up 24.8%. Six figure jobs make up 21.1% of postings, and 17.9% of postings are considered entry level, earning less than $30,000 annually.

Nearly half of job postings (47.8%) require at least a high school diploma or GED, followed by 31.9% that require at least a bachelor’s degree. Another 13.9% require an associate degree, 4.8% a doctorate and 1.6% a master’s.

A driver’s license is the certification required most by job postings at 34,398.
