Restaurant Group Pays $1.45M for Mahoning Bottom Dollar

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – The former Bottom Dollar grocery store on Mahoning Avenue has been purchased by the owner of a Louisiana-based restaurant chain for $1.45 million.

Bio Design Development LLC, whose headquarters is in Lafayette, La., bought the property Aug. 20. Bio Design is registered to Rodney Savoy, according to the Ohio Secretary of State. He is also the co-owner and managing partner of Double R Restaurant Group, whose headquarters is at the same address as Bio Design.

Double R operates Another Broken Egg Cafe across the Southeast, with 28 locations across Florida, Georgia, Texas and the Carolinas.

According to its website, Another Broken Egg is a breakfast, brunch and lunch restaurant offering a  “chef-inspired … culinary driven menu with a southern flair.” The chain currently has three sites in Ohio in the Dayton and Cincinnati areas. Among the locations listed as “coming soon” is a restaurant in the Cleveland suburb of Westlake.

The former Bottom Dollar store, 3377 Mahoning Ave., was built in 2011 and has sat vacant since Aldi bought out the chain and closed its two local sites in 2014. It was previously owned by Mahoning Plaza Associates LP.

The building, 1,528 square feet, sits on 2.3 acres. It is valued at $726,640, according to the Mahoning County Auditor’s office.
