Rocky Ridge Maple Syrup Goes on Sale Today

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – The 2018 batch of Rocky Ridge Neighbors’ Mill Creek Maple Syrup will go on sale 10 a.m. Friday at Fellows Riverside Gardens.

Half of the profits will be given to Mill Creek MetroParks and the other half set aside to support community projects. Last year, donations were made to the Kusalaba Branch of the Public Library of Youngstown and Mahoning County, the Mill Creek Jr. Baseball League and McGuffey Elementary School.

Since the neighborhood group began making and selling syrup five years ago, it has distributed $17,500 to community partners.

“We’d like to thank every person who has come for a tour of our sugar house, purchased a bottle of our maple syrup, or promoted our community efforts,” said John Slanina, president of the Rocky Ridge Neighbors, in a release. “You are ambassadors for our special neighborhood.”

Those effort were recognized by Dominion Energy Resources, which recently awarded Rocky Ridge Neighbors a $10,000 grant through its Community Impact Awards program, where the maple syrup team was honored at the Great Lakes Science Center in Cleveland.
