Rotary Clubs Seek Students for Summer Exchange
SHARON, Pa. — Rotary clubs in Mercer and Lawrence counties are looking for high school students interested in traveling abroad next summer as part of the Rotary International Youth Summer Exchange Program, Sue McClelland announces.
McClelland is coordinator of Rotary District 7280 Short Term Summer Exchange.
The Rotary asks that interested students be “of good character, have above-average academic ability, be between the ages of 15 and 18 and able and willing to travel on their own.”
Proficiency in a foreign language is not required, and district clubs exchange students with more than 25 countries.
Because the Rotary International Youth Summer Exchange Program is reciprocal, a host brother or sister visits here while local exchange students visit those countries.
Participants live with their host families three to six weeks under the sponsorship of their local Rotary clubs.
An interview at a local Rotary club is required before an exchange match is made, McClelland says. Student expenses are approximately $265 plus the cost of airfare. Each host home provides room and board during the exchange.
Applications are available due no later than April 15, 2016. More information is available by contacting at McClelland at 814 887 4180 or the Rotary clubs in Ellwood City, Greenville, Grove City, Hermitage, Meadville, Mercer, New Castle, New Wilmington or Sharon.
