Rust Belt Theater Brings Back Musical Spoof ‘Forbidden Youngstown’
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Rust Belt Theater Company is bringing back “Forbidden Youngstown,” its bawdy and irreverent spoof of theater culture and the city of Youngstown, for four performances beginning Friday.
An original comedy that takes the form of a musical revue, “Forbidden Youngstown” is given an update each year that adds new material to old favorites.
New this year is a parody medley of “Little Shop of Horrors” titled “Lil Shoppa Trauma,” and also songs that poke fun at “9 to 5” and “Mary Poppins.”
Performances will take place at 8 p.m. July 19-20 and 26-27 at Club Switch, 221 Belmont Ave., downtown. The show will take place on the outdoor patio but will be moved inside in the case of inclement weather.
Tickets are $15. For reservations, call 330 507 2358.
The July 20 show will also feature a special bonus performance by nationally renowned drag entertainer Denise Russell at 10 p.m. Known as “The Voice,” Russell is known for her vocal comedy and impersonations and is the only female impersonator to have performed at the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville, Tenn.
“Forbidden Youngstown,” written by Robert Dennick Joki, is now in its 12th year. The cast includes Heather Powell, Lisa Torrence, Charity Bauer, PK Lankford, Janelle Yohman, Jessica Willard, Alex Kluchar, Caitlyn Murphy, Vicci Sfikas, Brooke Jonas, Sarah Whitlatch, Diane Marie and Joki.
