Safer Streets Series Demonstration, Kids Bike Rodeo Planned

WARREN, Ohio – The community is invited to a Safer Streets Series demonstration and Kids Bike Rodeo on Aug. 6.

The Safer Streets demonstration, which will take place from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on North Park Avenue, will show how the street could be adapted to improve safety for those walking, taking a bus, bicycling and driving.

“The Safer Streets demonstration in Warren isn’t just about raising awareness – it’s about action. We’ll be testing temporary safety measures, showing how our streets can work for pedestrians, cyclists and drivers alike,” said Kris Kriebel, health educator at Trumbull County Combined Health District. “This is a chance for our community to experience a safer future firsthand, paving the way for a more inclusive street design for everyone.”

The Kids Bike Rodeo will start at 1 p.m. at 406 N. Park Ave., across from the Scope Center. Bike helmets and bike locks will be available to participants, and attendees will be able to experience and provide feedback on safe street improvements, which will include temporary changes such as a road diet, a bike lane and a creative crosswalk.

“More than one-fifth of Warren residents do not have a vehicle as a means to travel, leaving a need for bike infrastructure,” said Lydia Lynch, health and wellness coordinator at Trumbull Neighborhood Partnership. “Biking and walking as a means of transportation are also shown to improve health and be more eco-friendly.”

The event is being presented by Healthy Community Partnership members from Trumbull Neighborhood Partnership, Trumbull County Combined Health District, Eastgate Regional Council of Governments and the Youngstown State University Guinfit Initiative. Additional partners include the Warren City Fire Department, the Warren-Trumbull County Public Library and the United Way of Trumbull County.

Attendees also are invited to stop by the Warren Farmers Market at 347 N. Park Ave. from 3 to 6 p.m. during the event.
