Salem Rocketeria Is a Coffee Shop, Arcade, Music Venue

SALEM, Ohio – Salem Rocketeria coffee shop, 386 E. State St., will have its grand opening on Saturday, June 18, from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.

The downtown shop serves Youngstown Coffee Co. coffee and lattes. It’s also an arcade, snack shop and music venue.

The shop is owned by Gayle and Michael Johnston, who are both music lovers. Michael played in local bands in the 1980s and ’90s.

“We’ve always wanted to have a coffee shop and we knew we wanted to be in Salem,” Michael said.

“Once this building opened up in Salem, we immediately acted on it.”

Salem Rocketeria’s arcade room has a retro feel. In addition to the numerous arcade games, there is also glow in the dark air hockey surrounded by black lights.

Customers who want to bring in food or host events such as fantasy football drafts, gaming nights and art shows can contact the Johnsons at 330 565 6909.

Gayle said customers are becoming regulars.

“It’s cool to see returning customers ordering their favorite drinks and enjoying the cool music and atmosphere,” she said. “Our specialty lattes are what people are loving the most. They have amazing flavor combinations and are named in the rock’n’roll spirit.”

Gayle has also created a special cold brew drink for the grand opening that she calls The Black Dog.
The band Jack and the Cadavers will perform at Salem Rocketeria Friday at 6 p.m.

The shop is open 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday; 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday and Saturday; and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sundayu (closed Monday and Tuesday).
