Sales of New Vehicles in Valley Down 7.2% in July
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Sales of new cars and trucks fell in volume by 7.2% in July compared to the same month a year ago, according to the Automobile Dealers Association of Eastern Ohio’s monthly report.
The ADAEO report shows that dealers in Mahoning, Trumbull and Columbiana counties sold 2,865 new cars and trucks compared to 3,088 in July 2014, a 7.2% decline.
Combined sales of new and used vehicles were also down from last year. New and used dealerships reported they collectively sold 6,544 vehicles versus 6,813 in 2014, a drop of 3.9%
ADAEO bases its report on the number of vehicle titles that clear during a month.
The dealer reporting the most new sales is Greenwood Chevrolet, Austintown, with 210 vehicles sold. Second is Sweeney Chevrolet, Boardman, with 208. Third is Stadium GM, Salem, with 151 new sales. Fourth is Taylor Kia, Boardman, with 133. And fifth is Fred Martin Ford Mercedes Benz with 118.
Valley buyers last month flocked to the Chevrolet brand more than any other; four out of the five best-selling models were Chevrolets.
The Chevrolet Equinox proved the best-selling new vehicle in the region, dealers reported, with 203. Second is the Cruze, built at the General Motors Lordstown Complex, with 163; third-best the Silverado 1500 with 140; and fourth-best the Malibu at 107.
The fifth-best seller in the Valley, and the only non-Chevrolet, was the GMC Terrain with 92 sales, the ADAEO reported.
