SBA Reopens Shuttered Venue Grant Applications Today

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Small Business Administration is reopening its application portal for the Shuttered Venue Operators Grant at 12:30 p.m. today.

The $16 billion grant program offers live entertainment venues, arts organizations, museums and movie theaters grant awards of up to $10 million to cover 45% of their gross earned revenue. $2 billion is reserved for organizations with 50 or fewer employees.

Applicants can register in advance HERE. A smartphone and multifactor authentication is required. Also available are an FAQ page and user guide, as well as the Application Checklist.

“We recognize the urgency and need to get this program up and running,” said Barb Carson, deputy associate administrator of SBA’s Office of Disaster Assistance, in a statement. “With venue operators in danger of closing, every day that passes by is a day that these businesses cannot afford. We remain dedicated to delivering emergency aid as quickly as possible and will begin reviewing the applications on Saturday as they are submitted.”

The application portal initially opened April 8 but was quickly plagued with technical issues. Since then, the SBA has clarified program documentation, improved portal security, added a waiting room feature and updated the application’s features, including a revenue chart, the ability to upload multiple attachments and an improved flow to match eligible entity types and their required documentation.
