Scientists to Review Climate Research in Pittsburgh

PITTSBURGH, Pa. – Some of the nation’s top scientists and engineers will gather Aug. 5 to discuss climate change mitigation research.

The scientists will also share updates on their efforts to advance innovative solutions for a sustainable energy future at the 2024 U.S. Department of Energy Office of Fossil Energy and Carbon Management/National Energy Technology Laboratory Carbon Management Research Project Review Meeting.

Results from more than 150 research projects sponsored by the DOE’s Office of Fossil Energy and Carbon Management will be discussed during the five-day meeting at the David L. Lawrence Convention Center.

Presenters from research universities, government laboratories and agencies, electric utilities, research organizations and industry will share their findings from projects advancing a broad range of carbon management initiatives, including the safe sequestration of greenhouse gas in the subsurface; conversion of carbon dioxide into value-added products; and the development of novel materials to capture CO2 from power plants, difficult-to-decarbonize industries and ambient air.

Projects from four FECM research and development programs – Point Source Carbon Capture, Carbon Dioxide Removal, Carbon Conversion and Carbon Transport and Storage – will be discussed. A mixture of plenary, multitopic breakout and interactive poster sessions will be used to share research results and provide opportunities for discussion and collaboration.

“The meeting’s purpose is to examine the progress of projects in the FECM research portfolio, including projects conducted at NETL’s Research and Innovation Center,” said Marianne Walck, NETL director. “We look forward to sharing information about the cutting-edge technologies that are in development to achieve our nation’s climate change goals and enable clean energy for future generations.”

All sessions are open to the public. The agenda and registration information can be found HERE.

NETL is a U.S. Department of Energy national laboratory that drives innovation and delivers solutions for an environmentally sustainable and prosperous energy future.
