Second Sub Shack Opens, This One in Campbell

CAMPBELL, Ohio – More options than the typical choices chain sandwich restaurants offer with more healthful food is what Michael Mullenax hopes to provide at The Sub Shack at 699 McCartney Road. The ribbon cutting is the second Sub Shack for Mullenax with plans to add a third shortly.

“I want to bring better quality food to the area,” says Mullenax. “We want to stay away from fried foods.”

Mullenax, who operates a construction business, chose the Crims Corner shopping plaza as the site for his second Sub Shack. “Too many fried fast-food restaurants in that area,” he explains.

Mullenax’s stores offer a variety of made-to-order sub sandwiches as well as pizza jammers and wraps. The Sub Shack also provides catering for graduation parties, family reunions and picnics.

“We also have a location at 3212 Mahoning Ave. in Youngstown and plans for a third store in Tallmadge,” he says. The store in Tallmadge will have a drive-thru, adds Mullenax.

The store on Mahoning Avenue opened three weeks ago with plans to open in Tallmadge in June.

One item probably not found at other sandwich stores is the Shack’s signature brisket sandwich, which is made with Mapleville Farms smoked brisket.

“The brisket sandwich is my personal favorite,” Mullenax says.

Emma Rivera, general manager at the McCartney Road store, has worked for Mullenax for 11 years.

“We bake our bread fresh every morning and offer made-to-order salads as well,” Rivera says.

Kaleel Bros, 761 Bev Road, Boardman, supplies both Sub Shacks.

Sub Shack has four employees at the Crims Corners Plaza store as well as four at the Mahoning Avenue outlet.

The Sub Shack is open Monday through Saturday from 7:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday.
