Seven Permits Issued Last Week in Ohio’s Utica

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Seven permits for horizontal wells were issued last week in eastern Ohio’s Utica shale, according to an update from the Ohio Department of Natural Resources.

Rice Drilling LLC received four permits for wells in Belmont County, Antero Resources Corp. was awarded two permits for wells in Monroe County, and Ascent Resources Utica LLC secured a single permit for a well in Belmont, ODNR reported.

The rig count, that is, the number of rigs operating in the Utica during the week ended March 18, stood at 21, ODNR said.

As of March 18, 2,427 permits have been issued in the Utica and 1,931 wells have been drilled, ODNR reports. There are 1,530 wells in production across the oil and gas play as of that week, the agency reports.
