Sharon Launches its First Business Holiday Display Contest

SHARON, Pennsylvania – Things are looking brighter in the city as the first Sharon City Business Holiday Display Contest gets underway today.

More than 30 businesses in the city are participating in the contest, which runs through Dec. 23. Each business has a poster and a number on its storefront. Residents can vote for their favorite displays online or by picking up a paper ballot at Quaker Steak & Lube, 101 Chestnut Ave. Paper ballots must be returned and placed in the ballot box in the Quaker Steak lobby.

“After one of the most successful Small Business Saturday events we’ve ever had, we wanted to find a way to keep the momentum going,” said Courtney Cilli, Downtown Events coordinator. “We were so impressed by seeing all the holiday spirit shown by our business community with their holiday decor and events that they inspired us to create this event.”

The winning business will be announced Dec. 24 and will receive a $250 gift card to another city business of their choice. The city will also buy four $25 gift cards from the winning business and give them to randomly drawn voters.

“We just see this as an opportunity to promote our business community as well as provide a nice family-friendly outing for the holidays,” said Sherris Moreira, director of Downtown Development.
