Sharon Robotics Team Takes Second at Lego Contest
SHARON, Pa. – The Sharon Tiger Techs robotics team took home the second-place Champions Award at the First Lego League North American Robotics Tournament after competing against 68 teams from around the world.
The award is given to the top two teams in the contest in the Robot Game and Project categories, along with commitment to the contest’s core values. At the competition, held at Legoland Resort in Carlsbad, Calif., teams had to develop solutions to the problem of social isolation during long-term space travel.
To prepare, Tiger Techs visited several NASA sites, including Glenn Research Center in Cleveland, Goddard Space Flight Center in Washington, D.C., and the Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, Calif.
The team’s solution was Venture360, a virtual reality system that could provide astronauts with sights from home, allowing them to maintain a connection with Earth.
