Single Permit Issued Last Week for Utica Drilling
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – The Ohio Department of Natural Resources issued just a single horizontal well permit for eastern Ohio’s Utica shale during the week ended April 2, the agency reports.
EM Energy Ohio LLC was awarded a permit to drill a new well in Monroe County in the play’s southern tier, where most of the exploration is occurring.
No permits were issued for wells in Mahoning, Trumbull, or Columbiana counties during the week.
ODNR reports there are 12 rigs operating in Utica’s shale, unchanged from the previous week. To date, 2,152 permits have been issued across the play, of which 1,704 are drilled and 1,256 are in production.
No new permits were issued in Lawrence and Mercer counties last week in the western Pennsylvania, according to the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection.
