Sister Jerome’s Poor Updates Its Website
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Sister Jerome’s Poor has launched a new website that provides an online portal for donations.
The nonprofit organization, founded by Sister Jerome Corcoran, provides assistance to inner-city children to continue their education into their college years. Sister Jerome’s Poor also helps struggling poor families to pay their bills.
Sister Jerome is a 99-year-old Catholic nun who is a member of the Ursuline Sisters of Youngstown. She became a nun in 1935 and embarked on a her career as an educator.
Earlier this year a celebration of her upcoming 100th birthday resulted in $100,000 being raised for Sister Jerome’s Poor.
“Working every day doing something I love is my secret to staying young,” she said .
In 1976, Sister Jerome founded the Millcreek Children’s Center, a preschool in the inner city. In 1998, she and Sister Mary Dunn founded a charter school, Youngstown Community School, grades K-6. She directed both schools until 2012.
