Six Permits Issued in Utica Shale
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Six permits for horizontal wells were issued in eastern Ohio’s Utica shale for the week ended Jan. 13, the Ohio Department of Natural Resources reported Wednesday.
Four permits were awarded to XTO Energy, a division of Exxon Mobil for new wells in Belmont County, while two others were issued to Oklahoma City-based Ascent Resources in the same county.
As of Jan. 13, 2,740 permits were issued in Ohio’s Utica, 2,240 have been drilled, and 1,798 are producing.
The rig count for the week stood at 23, according to ODNR.
There were no permits issued in Ohio’s northern portion of the Utica, which encompasses Mahoning, Trumbull and Columbiana counties. According to the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection, there were no new permits issued for Lawrence and Mercer counties in western Pennsylvania.
